The Scout Promise includes a vow “to do duty to The King”. And scouts will be playing their part, as we’ve done in coronations for more than 100 years. Volunteering makes us feel great. There’s no substitute for seeing the smile on someone’s face after you’ve helped them out.
While our volunteer numbers have grown by 3,000 this year, we still need more. We currently have 90,000 young people waiting to join us. And he’s currently planning a programme to teach the Beavers (who think the world of him) Makaton so they can communicate more easily with him.īut we need more adult volunteers to join us to keep up with the surging demand from young people to join the Scouts. He’s an absolute credit to himself and the group.
Samuel is a 17-year-old young leader who supports our young Beaver scouts. Because of our volunteers, we can give young people the resilience to get through the tough times and come out stronger. Because of them, we can help young people step up, dream big and gain the skills they need for an increasingly unpredictable world. Without them we couldn’t run more than 7,000 scout groups in communities across the UK. It’s their kindness that makes the whole thing work. Volunteers are the beating heart of scouting.
